St. Catherine’s Blood Drive: July 21, 2009

The need for donated blood is critical, You may be eligible to donate if you are at least 17 years old, in good general health and weigh at least 110 pounds. If you have questions about your eligibility, contact the Red Cross web site a www.redcross.org/donate/give. We need you!

Red Cross News: Facts about Type O Blood

  • 100% of the general population can receive transfusions of Type O negative blood
  • 84% of the general population can receive transfusions of Type O positive blood
  • A 3-day supply is considered adequate
  • The summer months are especially difficult for Red Cross to collect blood as families are traveling and school is out.
  • The need for blood is constant and today Red Cross has less than one day supply of O negative blood.
