Environmental Justice Ministry

Contact: Barbara Arango, 269-372-3746, arango5@sbcglobal.net

Our mission is to bring awareness of environmental issues to the St. Catherine of Siena parish and how they relate to Catholic social teaching. We aim to facilitate positive changes within the parish and the community to develop our roles as stewards of God's creation.

Our approach will be to first address the issues facing the church itself, including facilites, processes and resources. We will then work with the St. Catherine of Siena parish to foster positive environmental changes within our community.

We're looking for interested parishioners to join our group in forming the ministry and working on projects throughout the year. If you have good ideas for green living and sustainable practices and a passion for implementing changes in our community, we'd love to hear from you!

Environmental Justice Mission seeking more volunteers for composting, recycling

The Environmental Justice Mission is assisting our maintenance crew with our new compost bin. We are using only coffee grounds in the compost, and  the bin needs attention regularly.  This is a volunteer job for one person, probably once a week or every ten days, to make sure it is not too dry and to turn it when needed. The EJM has also begun recycling items from St. Catherine’s. There is a small group who share their time taking some of the recycling articles from our building to the Recycling Center. We hope to expand this service as we grow in numbers of volunteers. Please contact Barbara Arango 372-3746 or Barb Bauman 978-2336 if you are willing to contribute your energy to our environment.
