Michigan Organizing Project

Effective Making Social Change

1.  Instrumental in persuading Portage to invest $100,000 in the housing assistance fund ,money which will go directly to vouchers to allow homeless people to rent their own apartment at a price they can afford.

 2. MOP has worked with Representative Robert Jones to introduce legislation that will allow counties all over Michigan to raise the revenues they need to end homelessness.

 3. MOP has formed a coalition with homeless persons, African-Americans and immigrants to form a workers center that will allow the lowest wage workers in our community to assert their rights at the workplace, and to gain access to some of the new jobs being created with the help of city tax abatements.

Many of you are also aware of the ways in which the work of MOP has empowered our parish and others to carry out the biblical mandate to “do justice”. As a parish, St. Catherine of Siena is proud to be members of MOP.  If you are interested in being involved or donating to the work of MOP, please call John Musick 344-1967.

Charity is no substitute for justice withheld. -St.Augustine
