Wedding Mass Music Selection Form

This form will help you to plan the music for your special day.  The blue underlined music selections are links to audio files...simply click on the title to hear a portion of the music.  To make a selection, click on the "" before the title.  (Your selections can be changed later, if you wish, but this will give us something to start with.)  Once you've finished, click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.  Your information will be sent directly to the parish music director.

After you have completed your FOCCUS survey
, please contact Mike to arrange a planning meeting to discuss your wedding music and liturgy.

Presider

Number of individuals or couples in procession:
(Include bridesmaids, maid/matron of honor, flower girls, ring bearers, bride/groom, etc., but not parents and grandparents.
This will give some idea of the length of the procession.)

Musicians
You may have any musicians you'd like for your wedding; however the staff musicians at St. Catherine's are most familiar with our customs and practices.  We can recommend instrumentalists or vocalists, if you wish.  Please note that fees will apply for each musician you use.

My keyboard preference is:            Organ exclusively
                                                     Piano exclusively
                                                     Combination of both
                                                     Neither
It doesn't matter to me - use the instrument that's best for the piece

I have a keyboard player in mind:

Please provide a keyboard player from St. Catherine's.

Cantors lead congregational singing (responsorial psalm, Gospel acclamation, songs).
We normally provide the cantor for weddings.

I'd like to consider having:           Trumpet       Flute                 Violin
                                                   Harp          String quartet

Instrumentalists I'd like to play:

Vocalists:  Vocalists provide solo vocal music during the ceremony.  Vocalists are different from cantors, although
cantors can often do some vocal music.

I'd like to have a vocalist:

I'd like a vocalist, but I need help finding one.

I'd like to use recorded music.  (A sound tech may be required.)

Music Selections

The music selections given here are only representative of music which could be used, and are the titles most often requested.  The music director
would be happy to make additional suggestions, or consider titles which you suggest, during the planning meeting.

Prelude

Prelude music is done as guests are being seated.  About 10 minutes of music is usually sufficient.

 Adagio for Strings (Albinoni)

Ave Verum Corpus (Mozart)
 Prelude in C Major (Bach)

Wedding Song (Stookey)
 When Love is Found
Other

Seating of Parents
The seating of parents and grandparents happens at the end of the prelude, just before the processional.
If you have a particularly special piece of music (vocal solo, perhaps), this would be a good time to do it.

Music selection

Processional
This music accompanies the entrance of the wedding party and the bride.  We recommend having only one piece of music for the entire procession,
since our aisle is so short.

 Canon in D (Pachelbel)
Ode to Joy - Symphony 9 (Beethoven)
 Rigaudon (Campra)
 Te Deum (Charpentier)
Trumpet Tune in C Major (Purcell)
 Trumpet Voluntary (Clarke)
Other

Opening Prayer
Read by the presider

Liturgy of the Word

First Reading   (Old Testament)
Read by a reader of your choosing.

Responsorial Psalm

The Responsorial Psalm is the people's response to the hearing of the Old Testament scripture reading.  It is usually led by a cantor (provided by the parish),
with the response sung by the people.  In order to ensure their active participation, the parish will provide a song sheet (which can be inserted into a
wedding program, if desired) with the music that you select, since we do not use a hymnal at St. Catherine's.

Or, you may choose to have the music printed into your wedding program.  Please see the Music Director if you wish to do this.

Psalm 25 To You, O Lord, I Lift My Soul

Psalm 27 The Lord is My Light and My Salvation

Psalm 103 The Lord is Kind and Merciful

Psalm 128 Blest Are Those Who Love You
Other

Second Reading     (New Testament)
Read by a reader of your choosing.

Gospel Acclamation

The Gospel Acclamation is sung after the New Testament Reading, and before the Gospel.  We recommend using the "Celtic Alleluia" musical setting,
since this is the setting used most often in American Catholic parishes.

Celtic Alleluia (Walker)
Other

Gospel
Read by the priest or deacon.

Homily
Given by the priest or deacon.

Interlude

At St. Catherine of Siena parish, we place an interlude song after the homily, and before the Rite of Marriage, to serve as a transition
between the Scripture readings and the Rite of Marriage.  This Interlude song can be either vocal or instrumental, live or recorded, and of the
musical style of your choice.

Music Selection

Rite of Marriage

Questions
Exchange of Vows
Blessing & Exchange of Rings

These are spoken dialogues between the couple and the priest or deacon.  There is no music involved.

Unity Candle    (optional)

If you choose to light a unity candle, we strongly recommend light instrumental background music during this time.  The candle will be very close to you in the sanctuary, and the time for the action is very brief.  A full song, either vocal or instrumental, tends to be too lengthy at this time.

Will you have a Unity Candle:

Presentation of the Gifts

Music accompanies the presentation of the bread and wine.  This can be instrumental music (preferred), a congregational song, or a short vocal solo.

 Ave Verum Corpus (Mozart)
 Canon in D (Pachelbel)
Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring (Bach)
Other

Eucharistic Acclamations (Holy, Memorial, Amen, Lamb of God)

These acclamations are always sung, and always by the people, led by the cantor.  We strongly recommend using the "Mass of Creation" musical setting,
as this musical setting is most popular in American Catholic parishes, and is the setting your guests will most likely be familiar with.

 Mass of Creation (Haugen)
Other

Nuptial Blessing
The Nuptial Blessing follows the Lord's Prayer.  This blessing is said by the priest, and no music is involved.

Communion

Music accompanies the reception of Communion by the people.  This can be a congregational song (preferred), instrumental music, and/or a vocal solo.

 Center of My Life
 God in the Planning
 On Eagles Wings
Other

Recessional

This music accompanies the departure of the wedding party at the end of the liturgy.  It can be quite festive, or more intimate, depending on your wishes.

Ode to Joy - Symphony 9 (Beethoven)
Hornpipe - from Water Music (Handel)
Other

A word about musicians' fees
The fee for the keyboard player, if provided by St. Catherine's, is $150.  The fee for the cantor, provided by St. Catherine's, is $75.  These fees
are to be paid prior to the date of the wedding, and may be given or mailed to Peg Klitch in the church office.  If the cantor is expected to do
vocal solo music as well, there will be an additional fee for this.

You are responsible for negotiating for and paying any other musicians from outside St. Catherine's.
